Favourite Classic Toys & Games – from the Fundamentally Children team
We all have that special toy that we remember from childhood and as Christmas is coming up the team have been thinking about our favourites, that we enjoyed as children as well as the ones we now enjoy with our own families.
Have we missed out your childhood favourite? Let us know in the comments!

“A great classic family game we now play with our children using Grandma’s original board with wooden racks and tiles, hoping that we can score on the red triple points and don’t end up with the dreaded letters Q and Z as our last picks from the bag.”

“As a child I remember having hilarious times playing card games such as Donkey, Go Fish, Whist and many others with family and now repeating these with my own family and their grandma, sitting around the table and on holidays as well.”

“I could spend hours on end creating a number of constructs, but the introduction of a battery motor to the K’nex set took my creations to the next level as I could build my own rollercoaster!”

“I remember having a huge green Lego crate as a child where I stored all the pieces from different sets. I loved creating different constructs at the same time and more often than not, the different constructs would merge together to make one (incredible) construct. Even at 24, I still love lego and I even have a Lego watch!”

“This game is so much fun for the whole family to enjoy. It encourages addition and strategy for children and we’re addicted!”

“This is a great family game, we spend many hours working out the fastest routes to our targets and tactically blocking others!”

“Imagining the ghastly deeds committed by these interesting characters, the excitement of getting close to the solution and the tension of whether you were going to reveal all before your friends. There was no better game in my book.”
Jo

 |
“I loved the strategy involved in this game and that is was possible to outfox my older brother – How cleverly can you hide your tug? – Can you survive once this has been discovered?”

“This was a firm favourite game in our house when I was a child, as my sister and I battled it out to have steady hands and hold our nerve.”
Georgina

 |
“I loved this toy and spent hours creating a portfolio of fashion designs which I would then add fabric swatches to. My own children now love it just as much…and it has sparked some great conversations about the retro fashion on the wheel.”

“I got her for christmas as a child and she had red hair like me. She came with a birth certificate (which I still have) and I renamed her Rose Marie.”

“I loved playing on the space hopper, having races down my street with my best friend.”

“I loved the tiny baby animals and the fences that joined together so you could design your own farm.”

“I remember putting together the train set around the living room floor, and my dog knocking it all over!”

“It wouldn’t be Christmas eve in our house without a game of Logo – by the fire with Nan’s yearly Christmas tipple ‘oh go on then, bein’s it’s Christmas.”

“Christmas is the only time we play the full version of monopoly – no short cuts and play till the death!”
Amanda

 |
“We loved Perudo in our family – it came on many family holidays with us. The rules are nice and simple with a nice balance of luck and strategy, as well as good bluffing skills, to make it challenging and fun whilst easy to play with a wide range of ages.”

“These were my favourite toys for YEARS, I saved up every penny to buy my next family for months – my Grandmother even helped me make a school uniform for them all! I made up endless stories for every one I owned and enjoyed every minute. I’m dying to get them out of the attic when my daughter gets old enough.”
