What is it
Achy Penguin is an app which has been designed with the aim of allowing children to voice their pain. Children simply click on the sheep to show where their pain is; they then choose the appropriate pig’s face to show how they are feeling. The app then incorporates techniques such as breathing, relaxation, visualization, and distraction.

What our experts think
Achy Penguin is an app which aims to give children a way to express their pain and how they are feeling about it. It does this very simply, meaning that it is an app which could be relevant to a lot of children. It can be so difficult for young children to communicate their pain to adults so this playful approach is really valuable, particularly for children suffering from regular pain issues.
We particularly liked different approaches the app suggests in how the child could deal with pain. The different techniques are not only good for different children but also for the same child on different days.
It would be even better if...
We would have liked there to have been an UK version using an English voice.
