What is it
iBiome- Wetland guides children through a series of wetland habitats. Professor Bio leads children on an educational voyage of discovery, uncovering the amazing species that are part of the wetlands. Children build unique bio domes from scratch and interact with their food webs. There is lots of information for the children to read; the app builds on scientific knowledge and allows for application of what has been learnt.
There are 3 wetland habitats to discover and explore: fresh water marsh, salt water marsh and mangrove swamp. Players are encouraged to use their knowledge to make their habitat a successful one. There are 50+ amazing species to unlock, covering 8 different categories from Crustacea, Molluscs, Insects, Birds, Reptiles, Fish, Amphibians to Mammals.
This app clearly reinforces the science taught in schools and enables children to further their knowledge and understanding of habitats.

What our experts think
iBiome is a educational app which teaches children about habitats and food chains; we really liked the level of detail and the way in which it teaches children using the correct scientific language. Once children have learnt a concept it is important that they have the opportunity to apply what they have learnt; this app gives this opportunity.
Our testers were fascinated by all the information given about ecosystems and were eager to find out more. The reward system was good and the badges acted as a good motivation for the children.
We like the graphics and the way in which the simple drawings, that were beautifully done, were interspersed with photos of real items.
The game play was simple and once the child had read the information it was straight forward to play; the instructions given were very clear and concise.
It would be even better if...
The parent gate was very simple, too simple for older children; we would like to have seen a more secure gate.
There is a lot of reading, which may put off some children. It would have been good to have an option for the text to be read to the children.
