What is it
Jungle Jam is a creative music app where your child joins 20 animal musicians in the jungle. As the animals are clicked on they become a musical instrument and create a jungle band – you can vary the melody, rhythm and beat.
The app is well animated and the gameplay simple and intuitive; when you zoom in on an animal, the app shows the player where to click in order to create the sounds. There are lots of funny animations (a panda wearing groovy changing sunglasses and a bear playing a snake guitar to name just two) giving each animal their own personality. Many of the animals can remember the melody your child has created and play it back themselves; the app also has the capability to make the creations always sound good (no matter what the child plays!)
The song created is played for a set amount of time and then there is a round of applause and a new animal drops in! There are 17 animals in total and lots of different songs to create!

What our experts think
Jungle Jam is a creative musical app with engaging and colourful graphics; the app develops children’s awareness of musical sounds and how they can be combined to create a given effect. Our testers loved the originality of the sounds and the range of animals used; particular favourites were the very clever zebra piano, the gorilla and the spider whose legs all made afferent sounds.
As children created their musical masterpieces the excitement built as our testers realised that once a level of crescendo was reached, the bird on the right would start dancing, and once all three balls had lit up the screen went dark a new animal was introduced – a lovely ‘reward’ and surprise keeping our testers interested in the app.
We thought that the range of animals was good, as was the level of humour and interest which the app created – many of the characters made our testers smile (they loved the Panda with its changing glasses and the giraffe with its musical neck!)
It would be even better if...
We would like to have seen a set of instructions, for parents, on the home screen. Also, over time the background music became repetitive; it would have been better if there were a range of pieces to choose from.
