What is it
The revolutionary new AR gaming system, Unicorn Blue, changes the way kids learn and play with STEM.
It’s a bundled mobile app, tutorial and toy kit that gets kids away from the table actively flying, leaping and choreographing their own hero’s journey and STEM inquiry.
First of its kind, this educational AR gaming system combines the best of physical, digital, and imaginative play to encourage higher-order active learning, intuition and mastery of STEM.
Players join a royal quest from Princess Keela to rescue a spell-bound unicorn. Learning to fly, jump and spin like a champion in the 3D enchanted forest is crucial to finding digital clues and golden rewards that the forest sprites have left for you in both the digital and physical world. Need a little hint to find a clue? A visit to Mahoo’s hint shop will speed you on your way. But how will you survive an encounter with a mischievous Donkey at each level? Resilience and cooperation with your friends are your best resources to solve the riddles and find the charms to save Unicorn Blue before it’s too late.
Children learn when playing UB
Hands on physics experimentation in motion, stability and force
STEM quizzes that don’t feel like quizzes because they’re disguised as role play
This video sets the scene for a product demo and gives EZ instructions on how to download the app and distance play. Woot! Woot!

What our experts think
This interactive, scavenger hunt style app game is great for getting children involved in problem-solving and logical thinking, which are key skills they need for STEM subjects. We like that the app comes with props that encourage children to interact with their surroundings and participate in the story both in the app and in the real world – this sets it apart from other similar games.
It also makes a great party idea, and can be set up in a park, garden or even in the house if you set the scene (e.g. by staging some areas to look like woods/sand etc). The children got engaged with the quest, working together to find the clues correctly, although at times they did need a bit of help to navigate the app and its graphics. Our testers particularly liked that they each got to take home a bag of treasure and a certificate which gave them a real sense of achievement.
