What to look for?

At age 9:

Developing new understandings of the world is starting and is great for the child’s social progression. Board games are brilliant and encourages group activity, these can be enjoyed as a family and will assist in keep close relationships and communication lines open as the child starts to approach their adolescence. Technology is exciting and ever changing, keeping their attention for longer periods of time.

 

At age 10:

As hormones start to kick in, children may need some quiet, alone time. Arts and crafts can allow them to express themselves and their emotions and they can take pride in the work or pieces they create. Design and technology is increasingly interesting, challenging and rewarding. 

At age 11:

Creative and fine motor skills are sufficiently developed and allow added detailed creations and entertainment in terns of art. 11 year olds are still wanting to learn and explore, constantly looking for new challenges. Art and making bracelets or designing models are excellent fun and rewarding when they are capable of creating a master piece.

How we review our apps

Every toy submitted to the Guide is firstly tested by the important people – children.

While the children play, they are observed by professionals who have been trained to carry out research with children in a robust, and ethically responsible way.

These apps are then put through their paces by our team of experts to ensure they meet our strict criteria in three main areas – Fun, Ease of Use and Skills Developed.
