Why Children Play

Children play because they can and its fun. They may not realise all the skills they’re developing whilst playing but that is the beauty of play. Free, active, child-led play is the gold standard of play and children who have plenty of opportunity to play freely develop a range of skills and personality traits that are very difficult to teach formally.  There are many different types of play and children benefit from a mixture of them all. It is also beneficial to play in different places, with different people and with different toys or props.
