How to Play

Fancy having some bats and ghosts flying around your house this halloween? All you need is some coloured paper to create your own Halloween Lanterns!

Here are 3 spooky lanterns you can make – when they’re done, you can place them around the room, hang them up with string, or attach them to a paper chain.

Pumpkin lantern

  1. You will need a piece of A4 orange card or paper.
  2. Fold in half lengthways.
  3. If you wish to have a handle, cut a strip of card approximately 2 cm off the short edge and put aside for later.
  4. With a ruler and pen draw lines about 1cm apart from the folded edge to approximately 2cm from the opposite edge.
  5. Cut along each line.
  6. To make the lantern tube, take the two ends and wrap round to join together, either glue or tape.
  7. Using some black card, cut out scary eyes, nose and mouth (if you don’t have black card, you can draw these on).
  8. Attach the handle at the top if you wish, with glue or a stapler.

Ghost Lantern

  1. You will need a piece of A4 white card or paper.
  2. Before you fold the card, cut a wavy line down one of the long sides approximately 2cm in from the edge.
  3. Continue from step 2 – 6 for the Pumpkin Lantern.
  4. Attach the handle at the top if you wish, with glue or a stapler.
  5. Stick on googly eyes, or draw some on.

Bat Lantern

  1. You will need 2 pieces of A4 black card or paper.
  2. Using one of the sheets, follow the instructions  step 2-6  for the Pumpkin Lantern
  3. With the second sheet of card/paper, make the bat wings by drawing a pair of wings and cutting them out.
  4. Stick on googly eyes, or draw some on.
  5. Slot the wings in to the lantern either side of the face.
  6. Attach the handle at the top if you wish, with glue or a stapler.
