What is it
Babies are able to react and respond to simple patterns and contrasting colours in just a few weeks after being born. As their eyes develop, high contrast shapes, patterns, and reflective surfaces give newborns something to focus on, respond to and interact with. This bright and bold cased board book with striking illustrations is easy to hold and manipulate. Watch the baby imitate and point at each page. Babies will react with delight as they look at funny animals, play peek-a-boo, giggle and gurgle as they see themselves in the mirror.

What our experts think
The First Baby Days is a wonderful range for promoting an interest in books as well as providing visual stimulation. The bright contrasting pictures encourage babies to focus and distinguish patterns, while toddlers just loved seeing all of the crazy animals (particularly when the adult made the animal sound, which our little testers often mimicked!). The mirror was also very popular – there was lots of giggling and the babies enjoyed touching and reaching for their reflection. Human faces are very interesting to young babies and help with social and emotional development. The book is sturdy and just the right size for little hands too, giving children a chance to play with the book themselves – this makes reading fun and inspires a love of books as they get older.
