The Le Toy Van Honeybake Shopping Trolley is an attractive wooden toy that was popular with our testers, who really liked having different compartments to put all of their ‘shopping’ in. Children thoroughly enjoyed walking around the room, filling and emptying their trolley; this role play is great for developing children’s imaginations and supports their understanding of the world. They also talked a lot about going shopping with their parents, promoting speech.
The detachable bag was good – children liked using it as a handbag for their toy phone and purse, extending play further – but children didn’t use the chalkboard by themselves. An adult can use the chalk board to encourage children to write or draw a ‘shopping list’, using this as an opportunity to teach children the early stages of writing. Although the trolley was really popular, we did find it was on the small side for most four year-olds.
