It is wonderful to see the pride and accomplishment on a child’s face following the build of the LEGO Technic Material Handler. Through problem solving and perseverance they constructed a vehicle with a functioning pneumatic arm that can pick up and transfer objects.
Advanced Lego builders can complete construction independently, while more novice builders require intermittent support and guidance – nevertheless the excitement to complete and use this set did not wane. All the observed children persisted through each stage of the project and were excited to return to it. Once finished with the build, repeat play was common. Younger siblings were engaged as well, with older siblings demonstrating the “tricks” that the handler could perform. This set encourages following instructions, builds executive functioning, and enhances fine motor skills.
