What our experts think
This set was very popular and, once our testers saw the recognisable character, they were eager to play. It was easy to assemble and the children quickly began creating their own stories, flying around with their new found companions. They loved how similar it was to the film, and this is why sets like this can help role-playing skills – recognisable characters provide a springboard for imaginative play and storytelling. Fantasy role play and storytelling are so important because they build creativity and develop vocabulary, as well as allowing children to act out and make sense of different scenarios, benefitting their personal, social and emotional development.
Our testers enjoyed playing with the set in water, making it a good garden/paddling pool toy or a toy for the bath. The fact that the dinosaur could fly was a big hit, although we had a bit of trouble with the wings falling off. Children also liked the way in which the oars could actually move: this attention to detail really added to the playability of the product.
