What our experts think
The Junko Build! kit engages children’s problem-solving and engineering skills while encouraging them to see the creative possibilities of ‘junk’. Our testers were given a box of items destined for recycling to see what they could make – they were excited to get started and worked very well as a team, cutting out shapes and fitting pieces together. It was lovely to see the older children assisting the younger ones when they needed help with the more fiddly steps, such as attaching the magnet joins.
Construction toys like this are great for encouraging important science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning, as children use their problem-solving logic to make a working construction. We really like the opportunities for open ended play – our testers kept coming back to it over a number of weeks, adding and removing things. The finished construction is also great for imaginative play and storytelling – whether it may be a house or a rocket!
