What is it
The Lamaze’s Spin & Explore Garden Gym brings a new experience to your baby’s tummy time. Watch your baby giggle as they spin around gently on the soft padded ladybird cushion. All of the different bright colours and pictures on the mat encourage sensory discovery. On the soft padded mat, baby can explore the different textures and layers that squeak and crinkle – all perfect for little hands to touch and feel.

What our experts think
Tummy time can be such a struggle, as babies often don’t want to be stuck face down on their front! However it is crucial for strengthening muscles in the neck and back; it also helps to develop the muscles and coordination needed for rolling over and crawling. So it’s great to see a product that makes tummy time fun and engaging, with lots of brightly coloured features and textures to distract baby. We like that the spinner can be removed so older babies can enjoy exploring the mat when they begin to sit and crawl.
Babies loved being gently spun and some of the older ones could actually spin it themselves. The very young testers (under 6 months) didn’t want to be on their tummies for long as they became frustrated, but this is not unusual for tummy time; a little perseverance is needed for babies to become used to this position. We suggest that in addition to the gym (which will help keep babies entertained while they improve their neck and back muscles), babies get tummy time on a flat surface (e.g. on a bed, or on the floor with a cushion) so they also have the chance to start pushing their front up, to strengthen arm muscles.
