What is it
Marty is a fully-programmable, WiFi-enabled, walking robot who helps you teach programming, electronics, and mechanical engineering in a fun and engaging way. Marty can walk, turn, dance, kick a ball, and – of course – bust out some funky dance moves!
For just over a year, Marty has been used as an educational tool within schools & code clubs. Students can also lead their own development and learn as they go through a Build – Play – Learn ideology. If bought in kit-form (pre-assembled also available), Marty offers a systematic and logical build process with pre-set constraints, there are also simple guided tasks suggested in each language Marty operates in. For more advanced mechanical design you can also 3D print new parts for Marty, either from our website or bespoke designs. Robotical have several lesson packs that have been aligned to the Curriculum of Excellent, National Curriculum as well as other international curricula to help educators deliver Marty in their classrooms as easily as possible (These lesson packs can be found here: www.martytherobot.com/users/education/resources/)
Marty can be programmed in languages including Scratch, Python and Javascript. From each of the programming environments, you can control whole movements or individual motors, read sensors, and make your own tasks for Marty to do. For more advanced programming and robotics, you can upgrade Marty with a Raspberry Pi computer and run your own AI projects.
By exposing young people to real-world problems, Marty can encourage kids to think and act like budding engineers, scientists and designers.

- Encourages communication skills
What our experts think
Marty the robot encourages children to learn sequencing and programming skills as they work out how to make him move. Our testers enjoyed working together as a team to put Marty together and program him correctly. This kind of task is great not only for building communication skills but also challenges strategy and trial and error learning as children experiment to find the right method.
Robotic toys like this are fantastic for engaging children creatively in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), a key part of the National Curriculum. We found that the app was easy to use with a clear instructional video, meaning there was no adult assistance needed.
