What is it
Fill the no-mess water pen and sketch away on the mat as colours come to life! When your doodles dry and fade, you’re ready to start again. Copy shapes and designs around the mat, with or without the dotted grid…
With every letter of the alphabet and all the numbers from 1 to 10, tracing each one is easy. Soon you’ll counting and writing all by yourself!

What our experts think
The ABC Doodle mat is great for encouraging and developing the pincer grip, vital for building children’s confidence with a pen and learning to write. Our adults loved that the water pen made no mess but still allowed lots of the creative expression usually found in messy play (minus the clearing up!) Our little testers were very engaged from the beginning and enjoyed tracing over the letters and numbers and making marks on the mat.
We found the size perfect and the children were amazed that after a minute or two their drawings disappeared, meaning they could keep on creating! The mat offers a real opportunity to practice writing – because the marks fade, they can practice making the shapes of letters and numbers again over time, to really grasp the skill. It would be great to have more than one pen, so older siblings or peers could model good practice on the mat, or so siblings could learn together.
