What our experts think
A simple game that encourages children to move around. The game teaches children about collaborative play and turn taking as they have to wait until it is their turn to roll the ball (this was a big hit with our little testers). Once the ball has been rolled, the children need to identify the number on the dice; they then need to be able to act out their chosen card that amount of times – this reinforces what the written number actually represents. The children had lots of fun watching one another (especially when a high number was rolled!).
Promoting number recognition and counting in a fun and active way is useful, especially for children who are less confident or reluctant in their numeracy learning. The game requires children to move about and make different poses – getting them active and promoting spatial skills, there is also the option of making up your own version of the game, which encourages creativity and collaboration. We particularly liked that this makes the game accessible for different ages of children to engage in together.
