What is it
Smart Eggs are a brainteasing toy consisting of two parts: an egg shaped body and the wand with a small ball on each end. But there’s more to this brainteaser than meets the eye. Inside the egg is a hidden labyrinth. Insert the wand into the egg from the top and then guide it through the labyrinth, using the holes and paths inside. Do it right and you’ll be able to withdraw the wand from the bottom of the egg.
Race the clock, or race your friends to see how fast you can solve your Smart Egg puzzle. Available in many different looks, every design has a different labyrinth inside.

What our experts think
We soon discovered that Smart Eggs are a lot more difficult to solve than they look! Our testers loved the challenge – it was enough to really push their problem solving skills but still achievable. They used trial and error and a range of pushing, pulling and twisting techniques to complete the puzzle, strengthening their logical thinking. This can support learning in subjects like Science and Maths, where children need to hypothesise and work out solutions.
Children were very focused whilst playing and most did not give up trying when they weren’t succeeding, developing concentration and perseverance skills. These are also really important skills for learning in school, as children need to pay attention in class and not be put off if they don’t get an answer correct the first time. It would be good if the level of difficulty was clearer, it is on the box but was missed by our testers. We also found that you need to be careful with the wand as it bends quite easily.
