What is it
Tiggly Shapes, is a set of 4 elegantly designed geometric shapes that interact and make Tiggly iPad learning apps come alive. They can be used alongside 3 free apps:
- Tiggly Draw – use the shapes to create pictures on the iPad screen then decorate them with animated eyes, nose, mouth, hats, moustache etc.
- Tiggly Safari – matching the shape shown on screen (and stated verbally) to see it transformed into an animal! This app gets progressively more complex as your child continues.
- Tiggly Stamp – use the shapes to create scenes with 80+ funny animals, fruit and other objects.
The product is designed to help children learn about shapes and fundamental geometry concepts, improve their language skills, and develop their motor skills, spatial thinking, and creativity. The apps come in 8 languages, English, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Russian, German, and Mandarin and can be played on all generation iPad/iPad minis.
Tiggly Shapes and apps are designed for children aged 18 months to 4 years old. They are made out of high quality materials to ensure they are well designed to suit toddlers: visually appealing, soft to the touch, and a weight that’s just right. Soft silicon sensors on the bottom of the shapes ensure they won’t scratch the tablet screen.
In addition to the 3 free apps that can be downloaded from itunes, the shapes come with a felt carrying pouch for easy storage and transportation.

What our experts think
Tiggly Shapes does a fabulous job of combining physical toys with apps to offer such clear learning opportunities. The children who tried the apps couldn’t get enough of them! It was really obvious how well they encouraged the younger children to learn their shapes – for example with Tiggly Safari they were really motivated to repeat the words the app said like ‘square’ and ‘chicken’, so valuable in developing their language skills. Tiggly Draw was also hugely enjoyed. The older children (e.g. 3 & 4 year olds) thought having all the different decorations (eyes, nose, mouth, hat, arms, legs etc) animated was hilarious. It was a great way to encourage their creativity. Tiggly Stamp was also good for a range of ages – toddlers had fun filling the scene whilst the older children put effort into creating the scene as they wanted it and turning it into a story. The multilingual options – allowing names to be read in a different language – is also a fabulous touch to help children learn a foreign language (or support bilingual children).
We were also impressed with the design of the shapes themselves – good quality and easy for little hands to handle, despite being banged repeatedly by little hands on our iPad screen the iPad remained unscathed! The felt bag to store the shapes is also a great addition and the fact that the apps can be used even if the shapes are not to hand is also a real bonus.
It would be even better if...
We’d love to see some minor tweaks to make it more intuitive for children to record videos in Tiggly Stamp and to cycle through the object options (e.g. different noses) in Tiggly Draw. British English voiceover would also be a great addition for the UK audience.
