Pasta with Tomato Sauce


Pasta with tomato sauce is a classic and delicious dish that kids of all ages can enjoy making.

Here’s a simple recipe for kids under 12 to make their own pasta with tomato sauce from scratch.

We’ve also included suggestions for substituting ingredients to accommodate different dietary requirements.



  • 500g pasta (spaghetti, linguine or any other type of pasta)
  • 400g canned tomatoes (diced or crushed)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil (optional)


For gluten-free: Use a gluten-free / wheat-free pasta



  1. Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the package.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and garlic and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until softened.
  4. Add the canned tomatoes to the pan and stir well.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  7. Drain the cooked pasta and add it to the tomato sauce.
  8. Toss the pasta with the sauce until well coated.
  9. Serve the pasta hot, garnished with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese (optional).
