“We should take this to the seaside and look at sea water”. – Girl aged 10

What our experts think

Micro Blocks encourage children to conduct virtual experiments with bacteria and viruses, developing their observation skills and use of scientific vocabulary. The augmented reality feature is a great way to encourage children to engage with their surroundings, the children were excited to see the 3D models in their living room and it got them moving around to explore the different parts.

We found that while adult input is needed to help with adjusting and aligning the microscope lens with the device camera, once set up it is easy to use. We like the variety the product offers, children can explore the prepared slides, engage with the activities within the app or even make up their own slides. The children enjoyed finding the smallest crumb, hair or bug to examine – this is a great way to nurture their natural curiosity and encourage them to carry out their own creative investigations.
