What our testers said
“The tweezers are hard to use when putting the beads closer together, but I can do it.” – Girl aged 10
“Look at my feature enhancement! I made the ends longer, this would make a real remote easier to hold.” – Boy aged 11
What our experts think
Coding Charms combines the foundations of coding with creative craft, providing children with an understanding of coding by relating it to real-world tools and creation. They were particularly engaged by the opportunity to come away with a completed, functional charm. Using the tweezers to carefully place the beads also allows children to hone finger control and develop precision and perseverance.
Children needed minimal adult help and were able to complete the project independently, however, we found it worked especially well when the coding objective was highlighted by an adult. The included workbook provided concise directions and allowed children to learn about the principles of coding. Bringing these concepts into the real world is a great way to cement children’s learning and allow them to learn the creative problem-solving skills needed for STEM subjects.
