Description

The Magformers Basic Plus 30 magnetic construction set introduces two great new shapes – squares with circle shaped inners and circles. This brings a fab new dimension to any 3D structure made using Magformers. In this box there are 4 circles, 4 squares with circle inners, 12 squares and 10 triangles. Every piece contains strong neodymium magnets safely sealed in every edge, but because the magnets freely rotate, they always connect and never repel when two pieces are brought together. The set is compatible with other Magformers sets, so pieces can be combined with existing collections to make amazing structures. Children can make anything from a simple pyramid to a flower, mouse, dog, cube – and a whole host of other shapes. With an ideas booklet to encourage creativity, this original Magformers set has everything. Magformers’ magnetic shapes always securely attach. Pieces are made from a specially-toughened ABS plastic and small neodymium magnets are safely sealed in the edges of each piece. But because they are free-spinning, they always connect and never repel when two pieces are brought together. Magformers are tested and approved in quality and safety standards all over the world. Children can use basic Magformers geometric shapes to create 2D ‘flat’ plans (known as nets), but also 3D figures. It’s very easy to lay Magformers flat, forming a mathematical net, and pull them up to form 3D towers, cubes and other shapes. Magformers structures are always super-easy to assemble, take apart, then build again – and clean away. With Magformers magnetic construction sets, children can make hundreds of models from flowers and animals, to robots and cars and also come up with their own amazing ideas. Magformers help improve reasoning skills through the process of assembling ‘flat’ 2D planar (also known as ‘nets’) and then instantly transforming those ‘nets’ into 3D shapes. The sets also improve fine motor skills through touching and combining magnetic construction pieces by hand. The award-winning design and construction of Magformers helps to explore and develop children’s creativity. At the core of the company, is the concept of 3D Brain Training – which helps children to develop comprehensive three-dimensional thinking through play. Internationally, Magformers has received more than 50 global educational and toy awards.

What our testers said

I like it because I think it’s much easier than Lego to build things, it’s not fiddly to put together.” – Girl aged 8

“These are the best, can we play all day?” – Girl aged 3

What our experts think

The Magformers set is great for encouraging children to build creatively, developing their logical thinking skills and also their understanding of geometry. Our testers loved playing with it and kept returning to the set. As well as using their imaginations to make their own constructions, the children were able to follow the instructions to recreate the ones included in the booklet. While a little adult help was needed initially by our younger testers with the placement of pieces, they were soon able to do it on their own and enjoyed making various 2D and 3D shapes and naming them. This is great for building vocabulary and knowledge of the properties of geometric shapes. Sets like this are fantastic for learning STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) as the opportunity to create imaginatively with the different pieces and magnets develops a sense of space and understanding of how things join together.
