Our testers were excited by the prospect of cracking the rocks to expose the potential geodes and what type of crystals they would find inside. A hammer and chisel are required in addition to the contents of this kit and the children drawn to this activity were thrilled to use these tools. With adult supervision, they were engaged and motivated to successfully crack the geodes and study the crystals inside. The learning guide is a good introduction to the different types of geodes, how they form, and other related rocks. While engaged in this project, the children can develop and hone fine motor skills for tool use and executive functioning.
