Description
From the creators of Times Tables Rock Stars comes NumBots – a vibrant, game-based platform designed to help children master addition and subtraction through practice, play and progression.
Recommended by Dr Gummer’s Good Play Guide, NumBots focuses on building solid foundations in early maths by developing key mental strategies and number fluency. With engaging robot characters and clear levels to work through, children stay motivated as they progress from counting to calculating.
- Ideal for use at home or in school, NumBots is:
- Suitable for children from Year 1 and up
- Carefully structured to support understanding, recall and speed
- Designed to promote steady, meaningful progress
- Encouraging for all learners, with rewards that celebrate effort
Early levels are accessible to younger children, but progressing through the game requires increasing fluency—ensuring the right level of challenge at every stage.
“I want to keep playing so I can unlock more levels!” - Girl aged 7
“I can add really fast now because of the robots!” - Boy aged 8
NumBots is a thoughtfully designed maths app that helps children build strong skills in addition and subtraction through fun, game-based activities. Children work through levels that gradually develop their understanding of numbers, using colourful robot characters and rewards like coins and stars to keep them motivated. The app focuses on key concepts such as number bonds and mental maths, encouraging both speed and accuracy. Our testers especially enjoyed customising their robot and collecting rewards for their progress. The app is easy to navigate, and the learning path is clear and well-structured—making it suitable for both home and school use.
Parents and children were pleased with how the app encourages regular practice, and many noticed a boost in their child’s confidence with maths. However, some found that the speed required to earn top scores, like three stars, could be frustrating. While some children enjoyed the fast pace as a challenge, others struggled to keep up—even when they knew the correct answers. Parents suggested it would be helpful to have an option to adjust the speed or difficulty. There were also a few small issues, such as not knowing what to tap next or the app not remembering login details. Overall, though, NumBots provides an engaging and effective way for children to strengthen their maths skills while having fun.
