What our experts think
It was so amazing seeing even less confident children having a go at mental maths. This is a great way to get them to practise their skills without the pressure. Children can use any operation, making the game accessible to players of all abilities and even encouraging them to push their skills.
We found that children needed some help from an adult to understand the instructions but once they had got the hang of the game, they started thinking more strategically about their different options. This is good not just for logical thinking, but also meant they tried out a range of operations, which is fantastic maths practice.
Board games like Race to Infinity encourage children to play together too, helping develop social skills. This gave children the chance to discuss their options, as well as maths related topics like prime numbers and degrees (from the luck cards)
