Celebrating Dads
Father’s Day is a special time to celebrate and show appreciation for the dads, grandads and father figures in our lives. Fathers play a vital role in their children’s lives, offering a unique blend of guidance, support, and love. From bedtime stories and helping with homework, to life lessons and simply being a reliable presence, the involvement of a father can significantly impact a child’s life and development. Let’s celebrate dads!
This Father’s Day, let’s take a moment to acknowledge Dad’s love, dedication and hard work. Celebrate by spending quality time together or make something he can cherish. Here are some ideas to help make the day special;
Handmade Cards
A heartfelt, handmade card with a personal message or drawing is a timeless and meaningful gift. Children can use coloured paper, paints, stickers, glitter – the more creative the better! Inside they can write a personal message expressing their love and appreciation, draw a picture of a special memory, or even include one of Dad’s favourite jokes. Some other activities to try!
Breakfast in bed
Who doesn’t love breakfast in bed? Imagine a tray with a steaming mug of coffee or tea, a delicious breakfast, and some flowers picked from the garden. Even younger children can get involved by preparing a bowl of cereal instead of anything cooked, and switching the hot drink for a glass of juice. The best start to the day for Dad!
Photo Album or scrapbook
Get the kids to create a photo album or scrapbook filled with pictures and mementos of special times together. Include photos, ticket stubs, leaflets, drawings etc, to take Dad on a sentimental journey through fun times and adventures they have experienced together. Great way to make the day special and celebrate dads!
Homemade story
Make Dad the superhero in his own homemade story book! Have the children create an adventurous tale all about Dad, showcasing his unique strengths and qualities. They can illustrate the story with drawings and personal touches that highlight their favourite memories with him. This is sure to become a cherished keepsake that he’ll enjoy looking at as the children grow older.
Make a playlist
Older children can create a compilation of songs that remind them of Dad in some way – a mixture of his favourite tracks, songs that will remind him of memorable times they’ve shared, and titles or lyrics that resonate with him. This is something he’s sure to treasure and can listen to in years to come.
Go on a walk
Whether it’s a stroll through the park or an all-day hike, going on a walk with Dad is a perfect way for the children to spend quality time with him. Enjoy the fresh air, have a chat, share jokes. This time together strengthens bonds and creates cherished memories, plus it’s a great way to stay active and connect with nature.
Make a video message
Simply use a phone or tablet to create a family video by filming short clips of each family member saying what they love most about Dad and their fondest shared memory. Something that he can watch whenever he wants to feel the love and appreciation of his family.
Wash his car
Children love splashing around with water and soap suds. Combining that with giving Dad’s car a thorough clean not only provides a fun and refreshing activity, but also allows them to show their love and appreciation for him and all the lifts he gives them.
These small gestures and shared moments will help to let Dad know how much he means to the family and make the day a special one. Here’s to celebrating all the wonderful fathers and father figures who make our lives special!
