Description

Cooper the STEM Robot – Screen-Free Coding Fun

Cooper the STEM Robot from Learning Resources introduces children aged 5+ to coding through hands-on, screen-free play. With reactive sensors, Cooper responds to simple commands such as ‘move forward’ or ‘turn left’, helping young learners understand coding fundamentals while developing problem-solving skills.

  • Screen-Free Coding: Encourages logical thinking through physical play.
  • Interactive Learning: Cooper’s memory builds as children create coding sequences.
  • STEM Skill Development: Supports critical thinking, spatial awareness, and sequential logic.
  • Collaborative Play: The Cooper Classroom Set includes four robots for small group learning, encouraging teamwork and problem-solving through interactive STEM lessons.

A great way to introduce coding concepts while fostering creativity and social skills in young learners.

“It says it can remember 300 steps. I’m going to test it.” – Boy aged 8

What our experts think

The packaging immediately caught the children’s attention and they were eager to start exploring. With adult guidance, they began by following the introductory coding instructions in the booklet before moving on to freely experiment with their own coding sequences. They enjoyed seeing the immediate effects of their step by step instructions which brought their play to life.

The lesson plans enhanced the learning further, ranging from fun races to real-world scenarios that older children could relate to, such as ‘Assistive Technology’ (Cooper drawing a picture) and ‘Ocean Cleanup’ (rescuing animals from an oil spill).

The children also enjoyed role-playing with the robots, giving them voices and personalities as they acted out situations while coding their movements. They found it especially amusing when Cooper made animal noises and ‘told jokes’, adding a playful element to the experience.

Reluctant to stop playing, the children demonstrated how this set is a great tool for teaching coding skills in a fun, hands-on and interactive way.
