The Balance Stepping Stones quickly became a hit with children, who enjoyed creating a variety of paths and imaginative scenarios. Most testers needed a little guidance at first, particularly with using the spinner and coordinating jumps, but soon gained confidence as they experimented. Older or more experienced children were able to plan sequences, testing different ways to hop, stretch and balance across the stones, while adapting layouts when paths didn’t work.
Younger children initially took a simpler approach, using the stones as ‘touch points’ or stepping carefully, but repeated play increased their confidence and physical skills. The open-ended design encouraged creativity, with children inventing games like “lava” or “space planets” and taking on pretend-play roles, supporting inclusive and cooperative play.
The set develops both fine and gross motor skills, supports colour recognition, spatial awareness, turn-taking and social communication, making it a versatile resource for active, confidence-building play.
