The colourful wooden pieces are good quality and our testers enjoyed mixing and matching them to create a variety of funny and expressive faces. The open ended nature of the set encouraged children to experiment freely, with plenty of laughter as they mixed up the facial features, recreated the expressions themselves and used the mirror (included) to compare their own faces.
As they played, the set naturally sparked conversations about emotions. Children and parents talked about how the faces might be feeling and related the expressions to their own experiences, helping to build emotional awareness and communication skills. Younger children explored the tactile wooden pieces, while older testers confidently matched features together and created faces to represent different feelings.
While some of the facial features were less obvious to interpret and the included mirror felt a little on the small side, these minor points didn't stop testers from enjoying the activity. Children were very engaged while developing lots of different skills such as creativity, early emotional awareness and fine motor skills.
