What our experts think
STEM Explorers – Pixel Art Challenge is an engaging puzzle game for children 5-to-8-years-old. The materials and booklet introduces concepts in computational thinking and analysis of coordinates in a hands-on manner resulting in 2D art. They create cute and colourful images out of “pixels” (individual dots of the full image) on a square grid by following a “programmed” sequence, somewhat akin to a computer macro or script. When the script has been completed, the resulting image is revealed much to the children’s delight. They especially enjoyed trying to guess what the final image would be before it was finished. The learning guide booklet contains a variety of puzzles, from introductory to more complex concepts and patterns that filled the grid and used all the colors. Children also greatly enjoyed creating their own, original pixel art. STEM Explorers – Pixel Art Challenge supports children develop executive functioning, critical thinking, and fine motor skills. It also encourages children to think creatively and problem solve as they make their own pixel art masterpieces.
