Description
The Xtend Mg+ by smarTrike is the world’s first balance-to-pedal bike with a telescopically extendable frame.
1st Stage: Introduces a balancing concept, at the lowest frame height and without pedals.
2nd Stage: Time to try cycling. Attach the pedals and introduce the notion of pedalling to progress forward rather than pushing off the ground.
3rd Stage: Adjust the handlebar, seat height, and extend the base frame to meet the sizing of a growing child.
It is built from a magnesium-lite alloy so its light structural frame helps toddlers balance and cycle with minimal exertion while learning or riding. The bike can transform in sizing with seat height adjustment from 15 to 22 inches, the handlebar from 25.5 to 27.5 inches, and the frame itself from 41 to 42.5 inches.
What our testers said
“I can go fast, look!” – Boy aged 4
“This is easy for me, I can do it on my own” – Girl aged 3
What our experts think
This adjustable bike is ideal for helping children to develop confidence with their riding ability and it grows with them as they develop their balance, stability and coordination. The balance bike is great for teaching children about steering as it builds their confidence without worrying about falling off, before they progress to using the pedal bike. Our testers liked that it was easy to adjust the size and easy to use. Some of the younger children did need some adult help to guide the bike when they were a little unsteady, however, they enjoyed being able to mount it and scoot along independently. Some of the children even enjoyed using it in their role-play, pretending they were going to the shops!
